Phil Vs. Melo one for the ages

 One of the biggest sagas in the NBA over the past few weeks has not been a occurrence on the court, but rather some serious static between a high profile Executive of a team and a high profile player. Before I dig deeper let me put this disclaimer out that I B-easy am not a big basketball fan and don't regularly follow NBA news. The growing divide between Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony is one for the ages and it's clear one gotta go.
    In a typical work environment this kind of distraction would not be tolerated this long as in the end it dwarfs the most important part of a job. Getting the job done and producing and right now Phil and Carmelo are doing neither, however both I'm sure are very prideful and have egos that have to be fed. This puts Knicks owner James Dolan in a bind as it's something he should have nipped long ago, and he either isn't sure how or doesn't want to deal with it.
     In the meantime the Knicks brand is taking blows left and right, while this debacle continues to drag on and the season drags knocking the knicks further back in the standings. Fans lose interest, if this drags on well into the off season no gamechanging, high profile player is going to want to come to New York. They'll have to open the whole vault to attract one.
     In my opinion it is clear Phil Jackson doesn't want Melo there, while I understand Carmelo has established himself in New York, loves being there for family purposes and the connections to other industries. I think it would be in his best interest to waive his no trade clause and go to a potentially contending team. Carmelo will be 33 this year and while that is still young, we all know that starts the twilight years of a professional athletes career. He has the fame and money, has earned respect within the league and his team but his legacy will take a big hit if he never wins a NBA championship.
     Phil Jacksons legacy has already taken a big hit, widely regarded as one of if not the best coach in the NBA. It's clear his skills as a executive are not up to par. If Carmelo refuses to waive his no trade clause I believe it would be best for Phil to resign from his position. Since taking the job as president of the knicks the team has a 71-146 record. Four head coaches in 2 1/2 years and a revolving door of "star" players. I don't want to say Phil Jackson is out of touch but Phil Jackson is out of touch. His track record in the past has garnered him a certain amount of passes in certain situations. His frequent discrediting and bashing of Carmelo in the media is a cause for concern. He's either a man not accustomed to losing and can't handle it, a true alpha male who has dealt with alpha males before but has lost his touch, or a big baby who in trying to save face is blaming everyone but himself for what he has built.
   For the sake of both men, their health, careers, and their legacies. As well as for the sake of the Knicks, the rest of the team, staff and most importantly the fans ONE GOTTA GO sooner rather than later.
