This past weekend the rebooted Power Rangers movie was released. While I’ve seen mixed reviews I enjoyed it,and felt for the most part it did a decent job of updating the story for the times while still honoring the original. While nothing from my childhood except Ninja Turtles was bigger than Power Rangers, here are a few shows I think have reboot potential.
As often is the case when one of our childhood favorites get’s rebooted whether we love it or hate it we always ask What’s next? I have a few candidates which I think should be rebooted.
Jonny Quest is one I would love to see a live action adventure of. It would take the right casting with a villain who is believable yet a little campy. The Jonny Quest character has to be adventurous but not a smart ass teenager. Save the smart ass comments for Race Bannon. Send the team along with Dr. Quest, Hadji, and Jesse on a globetrotting adventure. I think it could be one of those “roller coaster ride” movies that need to come back.
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? would be another great addition. If it is based around a team of 3-4 teenagers sent to track Carmen and her crimes down. If done right it could be a different spin adding heist films, spy films, globetrotting and adventure into one.
I would love to see a overlooked show bought back as a rebooted show is GhostWriter. With a digital age spin on the sleuthing skills of the team I think it could have a new life and last longer than the original.
Static Shock a little known DC comic that was a cartoon on the WB is overdue for a reboot. In the age of superheroes and the calling for more minority heroes, now is the time to bring Virgil and his powers back. A Static Shock movie fully displaying his powers and the science behind it, alot of children could pick up a interest in science.
The two heavy hitters everyone has been begging for is Thundercats and Masters of the Universe. The technology is there to bring the thundercats and their adversaries to life. As Avatar and the Jungle Book have recently shown a whole world can be built using cgi and create a Third Earth that we could be immersed in along with the Thundercats.
A Masters of the Universe movie has been teased for years. We’re tired of the teasing at this point. The original movie suffered from a low budget that severely affected the movies story and tone. Dolph Lundgren had the look of He-man but his acting wasn't there. We need a full movie on Eternia, a real look at Grayskull, battlecat, orko, some time with Prince Adam, great action, sword fighting and a Skeletor who is menacing.
These are just a few properties I would like to see rebooted. Hollywood thrives on the nostalgia factor and honestly we as consumers eat it up. Whatever the next property is bought back to life we can love it or hate it but we’ll sit down and watch it.

Timing of a classic
Posted on March 21, 2017by B.Easy(live from the shop) with No comments
On episode 27 If it aint broke dont fix it the shop crew discussed classic albums and what defines a classic. Everything was thrown out there..sound, setting trends, topics on the album, and the ability to stay relevant within a 2-5 year window and beyond of being released.
An important factor that we missed and I think alot of people miss when defining a classic is timing. Some classics were simply released at the right time.
A classic can capture the essence of its era. What the world was feeling at that time, what direction it was headed. How the masses felt at that time and when people hear that album years later it's like a history lesson. If you weren't alive during that time period you feel like you were, if you were alive during that time it takes you back to the "good ol days".
Classic albums and the artist who made them can also be visionary in their direction of the album. The Blueprint's sound was visionary as at that point in time rap was moving in a soulful backdrop sound. Marvin Gayes what's going on album embodied the despair and sadness of that time and you still feel it today. If What's going on or mercy mercy me plays right now it's still so relevant and you feel the music. The Thriller album fused pop and rock together bringing it to the forefront creating a new sound on its own. Tupacs 7 day theory is praised for its prophetic tone. To pimp a butterfly came out during a time where we as black people are fighting a different type of civil rights movement, and realize how much has remained the same despite advancements. Years from now people will listen to that album as a lesson that no matter what, we keep pushing we'll be alright.
Even a debatable "classic" such as Get Rich or Die Tryin was a perfect time capsule of its era. The chronic, college dropout, illmatic, ready 2 die, dont be cruel, heartbreak, control, confessions, 20/20 experience, College dropout, Purple Rain the list goes on.
When we talk about classics we always add the sound of a album, a album being ahead of its time, having so many hits that have carried on through the years, created a genre or making it more more mainstream as factors that factors into albums being dubbed a classic. The timing of album's releases and it's era have to be included in the conversation.

I'm against $15 minimum wage
Posted on March 09, 2017by B.Easy(live from the shop) with No comments
Baltimore City council has passed a preliminary vote to increase the city's minimum wage to $15 a hour by 2022. I am here to say that is a absurd idea tha I am completely against the wage increase.
First reason I'm against the increase is because Baltimore is by all accounts a fiscally poor city. All over the news you hear city schools have a budget shortfall and layoffs could be looming to cut the shortfall. Schools need repairs, our water infrastructure needs repairing which makes water bill's have all these fees tacked on to pay for these updates. Road infrastructure needs repair, Our property taxes are higher than neighboring counties to cover the cost of lower residents paying property taxes.
Baltimore is trying to follow the footsteps of other cities regarding raising minimum wage, but Other cities in the country that have $15 minimum wages have big industries that employ alot of people with high wages to support that cost. L.A. is the entertainment capital of the world, Seattle is the headquarters of Microsoft, Starbucks and Amazon among other companies . San Francisco and the neighboring area is Silicon Valley . New York City is the business capital of the world.
Baltimore has no defining industry bringing jobs in the city to support the wages. The city has a hard enough time attracting businesses. With the raise means more businesses will look twice before opening within the city limits, and if they do th increased cost will be passed down to consumers. While supporters of the bill right now are all for it, once a small cup of coffee costs $8.75 their tune soon will change. People are for everything and until it dips into their pockets.
The last and most important reason I am against the wage. In my opinion a $15 minimum wage does not encourage good workers or work habits. In my experience I have seen people who are not good workers, always late, always half assing, always making excuses always saying they need more money and honestly believe they should get it because they say it. We all could use more money but I believe when you work and grind your way from $8.25 to $15.00 it improves your habits of being a good, productive worker and you'll appreciate it. Coming in making $15 does not assist in establishing good workers or appreciating it to pass on to the next generation. The city council has provisions in place on the rules of the minimum wage increase and how it would be implemented. I still think that's not good enough. I'm all for people making a decent living but a $15 minimum wage comes with a big cost I don't think is worth it and the city just can't afford to support. Maybe a $10 minimum wage would be a little easier to swallow. Always remember though that the miminum wage was implemented as a stepping stone not something to keep you stagnant.

I'm against Goldberg being WWE champion
Posted on March 06, 2017by B.Easy(live from the shop) with No comments
Last Night at WWE Fastlane, Goldberg who is 50 years old and hasn't wrestled consistently since 2004 became WWE Universal Champion. What a crock of shit!! The power players in WWE (Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon,Triple H) all made a decision that I feel is one of the worst they could have ever made.
When Goldberg returned to the WWE last fall to face Brock Lesnar I understood the reasons why. Nostalgic purposes, marketing purposes to push the latest WWE game featuring Goldberg, and for Goldberg’s own personal reasons that he claimed. When Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar in a minute and some change everyone knew it was leading to a rematch at Wrestlemania. That was fine no one expected much out of the match. Goldberg returns for Royal Rumble is one of the last entrants, gets eliminated, and a few weeks later challenges Kevin Owens for the Universal title.
When the match was announced I can’t name one person who was thrilled about this match. Fast Forward to FastLane, Goldberg vs. Owens no one expected a five star match, but we surely anticipated more. After several minutes of stalling, Chris Jericho made his return enough to distract Kevin Owens and allow Goldberg to hit the spear and jackhammer for the win. Talk about sucking the air out of something, the results only added to a dismal and already boring event.
I don’t know about you but I have no interest in seeing Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE title. In a lot of ways both guys are similar, both are huge guys with relative quick speed for their size, they have been classified as dangerous workers at times, I think both are overrated, they can’t work long matches and both fell into wrestling and made a lot of money off it. I’m not mad at either for that, and Brock has more natural talent than Goldberg. Neither are worthy of a match where the title is on the line and both are part-timers who don’t have anything to gain from winning the Universal title.
Kevin Owens on the other hand is one of the best workers in the WWE at this time. He is athletic, play’s his part well, can make you love or hate him. He also has a habit of taking what is given to him and making the best out of it. His stint with Chris Jericho was very entertaining and it ran it’s course, turning him into the take no prisoners asshole he can be. Unless there is something big planned up WWE sleeve with K.O. all that went out the window when he lost to Goldberg.
This is just another example of the WWE sacrificing younger guys for the part-timers and legends and it has to stop. We all love a little nostalgia and seeing our favorite wrestlers come back for one more match is something that is always anticipated. In the grand scheme of things when they come back they need to help the next era keep the ball rolling and if not lose to them, put on enough of a show where the guy their facing will get enough of a “rub” to move to the next level. Part-timers coming back for Wrestlemania Season are fun for the most part, but not at the expense of the current roster.
